Words Have Power

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form and void, and the Spirit of God hovered over the face of the deep, and God said, "let there be light." And there was light."
Genesis 1:1-3
God used words to create the universe and everything in it. Then He breathed that same creative ability into mankind. Into me. Into you! The words we wield can be weapons or tools, vessels of creation or destruction, carrying both the power to inspire, and the ability to belittle. I don't know if I would call myself an author, though I have been writing all my life, I think myself to be more of a wordsmith, or something thereabouts. The things I write now aim to reflect the power of the gift God has given us through words.
My prose often meditate on God and His ways, and His creation, but more recently I've been working on doing something that has stretched me and challenged me and thrilled my heart; I have been writing a series of novels. God made world building look so easy! I can't say I have the same finesse as my heavenly Father, but I do think I inherited some of His passion for it! Its been great fun walking in His footsteps to build a little world of my own. Though I cannot hope to achieve the mastery of His creative prowess, I believe I have captured a piece of the world as my mind and heart perceive it.
If you have made it to the end of this piece, odds are we share something in common.
Maybe its that sense of wonder you never quite let go of as you became what the world deems to be "grown up". Or perhaps you see the depths in the ordinary things all around you, and it manifests itself in your cool rock collection, or lingering long at a dandelion patch, or staring at the lichen that reaches out, unfurling to receive the rain. Whatever the reason, I'm glad you stayed, and I hope we can connect through this powerful thing that God has given us.
Words matter.
So be daring and careful and bold and precise, but most of all, may your words ring true.
Passionately,
Brooke Elizabeth
